Independent Media/Media JusticeSeattle Indymedia
The Independent Media Center (www.indymedia.org), was established by various independent
and alternative media organizations and activists in 1999 for the purpose of providing
grassroots coverage of the World Trade Organization (WTO) protests in Seattle. The
center acted as a clearinghouse of information for journalists, and provided
up-to-the-minute reports, photos, audio and video footage through its website.
Using the collected footage, the Seattle Independent Media Center (seattle.indymedia.org)
produced a series of five documentaries, uplinked every day to satellite and distributed
throughout the United States to public access stations.
Grist Magazine
"...at Grist, we believe that news about green issues and
sustainable living doesn't have to be predictable, demoralizing, or
dull.
Grist is based in the Emerald City of Seattle, in the Evergreen State of Washington (see the green theme?), with contributors scattered the world 'round. [Grist is] a nonprofit organization funded by foundation grants, reader contributions, and just a touch of advertising." 911 Media Arts
911 Media Arts Center was incorporated in 1984 and is considered
Washington State's premier Media Arts Center. 911 Media Arts' mission
is to support the expressive use of innovative media tools by providing
the access, training and environment needed to create/exhibit works of
